I have been DYING to reveal this table (but thanks to this lovely weather in Georgia I haven't been able to finish it as quickly). Let's do a quick recap!
I just love the carvings in the wood! Now it's Avocado
Ok now that you've seen it, let's do a quick "how to".
I decided with all of the great details and curves that this piece needed some glazing!
I was at HD the other day and found Ralph Lauren glaze in the oops bin for 3.00. YES!!! 3.00!! It's normally $25 for the gallon! I squealed all the way to the checkout! Hubbs was not with me so he couldn't have been embarrassed :)
I had them tint it black. *BEWARE* if you buy this glaze it does not come tinted. You should have them tint it black or dark brown.
I new I wanted a fun color to go on here and I didn't want to spend a lot of time painting it. So I headed straight for the spray paint aisle. GASP-yes I spray painted this piece AVOCADO by Krylon.
This is what it looked like after I spray painted it. Notice how the carvings don't really stand out.
This is where the fun comes in. There is absolutely no right or wrong way to do this. Your 3 year old child (assuming you have one) could do it and it would look amazing!
I took a craft brush and dipped it in the glaze. I just started wiping it all over the carvings and on the legs, making sure it gets in all the small places. This is what it looked like during this stage. Not very pretty....but just wait! (PS...this picture inspired me to paint the underside, just in case someone turns it over...yeah I'm crazy like that!)
I let it sit for about 10 minutes, and then took a wet towel and wiped it off. I repeated the last step a few times to really make the nooks darker and stand out.
I ended up with this :)
I just had to show you my ceramic birds for .99 and my thrift store clock for $5.
I ended up with this :)
LOTS more projects to come...yay for Spring Break!

ReplyDeleteLove this and it's such a great color! Did you sand it before you spray painted it? I have a table in my kitchen that I really want to do, but I'm a little nervous about getting started.
ReplyDeleteThat was my same question....did you sand before you spray painted?
ReplyDeleteThis is my favorite table - I LOVE the color!
ReplyDeleteLove this project!!!!
ReplyDeleteThis made me miss my mother. Back in the early 70's she had
ReplyDeletea marble top dresser and a marble top commode that she rescued from a house that was being torn down. She stained them avocado and in the late 1990's had them refinished to the original state. They were beautiful both ways. My mom was one of the original "pickers" and all of her children still have some of her wonderful finds.
Great table! Did you sand before painting?
ReplyDeleteThanks,
Tisha
Hey nice post and it is also helpful for me but i also want some better post related to matbord(Dinning Table),please share if u have.
ReplyDeleteThanks
Okay, I'm loving it!! I searched on Pinterest for "painted tables" because I just picked up a beauty (no, really an ugly) at the thrift store for $6 and can't for the life of me figure out a color to paint it. I wanted a "pop" of color but the wonderfully, popular turquoise that is every where really doesn't go in my house so I needed something else. AVOCADO! it's perfect!!!! Thanks for sharing this post and giving me the inspiration!!
ReplyDeleteHi i am new at painting furniture,so i have a few questions, what is this glaze you speak about?will it wipe off over time,or is it something that hardens, should a clear coat be put over this to make it stronger and easy to wipe?where is the cheapest place to buy annie sloan paint?
ReplyDeletethanks for reading ,i look forward to hearing from you.
Barbara
