I found this little cutie as a part of a dresser/headboard/nightstand set form Goodwill.
You'll have to stay tuned for updates on the other pieces :)
From a distance, it looks pretty good, but up close it was in BAD shape. It was obvious someone tried to paint it before.....about 4 other times.....and never sanded.
There were GLOBS of paint everywhere on it.
But it had dovetailed drawers (that someone tried to paint over) so it was pretty well built. I couldnt resist the cute porcelain knobs and the shelf below.
I debated forever what color to paint this....green (Since so many of you liked my 2 other green tables).....blue, pink, who knows! I dug around in my paint stash and found some Valspar spray paint with Suede finish that I got for .50 cents!
I've never used this kind before so I was anxious to try it out!
I had to sand the table with 60 grit sandpaper and used about 12 pieces. (It's moments like this where I miss my Annie Sloan Chalk paint!!)
I finally got through all 126 layers of paint and goo, and was ready to start spraying. I skipped priming because the spray paint just said to sand...so I figured I'd give it a go. If it was a bust, I was only out .50 cents!
After I finished it looked like this, but I wasn't in love.
After I finished it looked like this, but I wasn't in love.
So I decided to add some Ralph Lauren glaze on top in Tobacco. I just painted it on, and wiped it off. Then distressed the edges to show some of the white paint through and put the white porcelain knob back on. I then waxed it with clear wax.
NOW I am absolutely head over heels with the finish on this table. It really has light and dark spots like suede and it even has a texture to it!
I decided to keep the little lip under the drawer white to highlight the curve more.
And here's a little Before Meets After for you!
I'm hoping for a quick sale on this one....I'm trying to make room for lots of other projects!
