A thoughtful reader

I sold a bunch of my pieces over the past few days and it was VERY exciting! I'm all cleaned out for the time being but I will have more in the next day or two.

Tina is one of my thoughtful readers and she bought a piece from me. It turns out that Tina is a baker and she had a nice little surprise for me when she bought this china cabinet!

It was a banana cake that was absolutely amazing! Her presentation of it was impressive as well!

Check out some of these other amazing goodies from her bakery, Shamsi Bakery.

As a teacher, this was just too cute for me!

Can't go wrong with cupcakes!

A southern staple, Pecan Pie.

Tina also does cake pops, cookies, pastries, and wedding cakes!

You MUST go check out her website and her facebook page! You can place an order and have it shipped to you too!

Happy Eating :)

custom dining room table

Lauren contacted me a few months ago about her upcoming move to Atlanta.

She was looking for a dining room table to seat 6 and she wanted it to be a really dark wood. I scoured the internet and stumbled upon this table and chairs. Lauren loved the table, but wanted upholstered chairs. I got the table anyways because it was such a perfect fit!

I picked up the table the next day and went to work.

There was a lot of "gunk" on the top so I first wiped everything down with my trusty Goo Gone.

Then I sanded the entire thing using my palm sander and 60 grit sandpaper.

Here you can see the left side is sanded, the right is not. When staining a table, you want to make sure every last bit of it is sanded down smoothly so the stain will adhere.

I had a lot of help on this one :)

Now if only I could get them to hold a paintbrush I'd be set!

After I sanded down the piece, I begain to stain it using Minwax's dark walnut stain and I applied it with a foam brush. Most stains say to use a good quality brush, but I prefer the throwaway kind!

Here it is finished!

I love it so much! When Lauren came to pick it up I asked her to send me a picture when she got it all set up in her new apartment.

How cute is this??? I just LOVE the chairs!

Wants for my home

Do you have a "want list" for thing for your home? Maybe it's written down or maybe it's stored in your head with the other 1,234,682 things....or MAYBE it's in a board on Pinterest.

That's where mine is stored and I wanted to share some of it with you today.

Every antique store/thrift shop/flea market I go to, I look for one of these

This would look great in our Master bathroom to hang towels on.

I'm also determined to make an upholstered headboard this summer, but if I happen upon one of these at an amazing deal, I won't complain!
I also stalk Craig and his List daily for these
The nesting tables I have now are metal with a stone top, and I really want wood ones.

Another item on my wish list is a khaki pull out sofa.
I found this one at JcPenney and it's half off this week (which is a GREAT DEAL!) but it's still $569, which isn't in the budget right now.

Do you have wants for your home? How do you prioritize what "wants" come first?

Paris Grey Dresser

This dresser was a part of a set that I purchased from Goodwill.

I debated painting the dresser like the nightstand, but then I got a new order of Chalk Paint in and I knew what I was going to do with it.

Just like the nightstand, this dresser was in bad shape.

The top was yellowing due to someone putting polyurethane over white paint. (It has a tendency to do that, so use polycrylic over white paint!)
Also, the dresser had a lot of chunks of wood missing and the drawer guides were broken.

I first took out all the drawers and fixed the pieces of wood with wood putty. Even though I was using chalk paint, which doesn't require sanding, I did give this piece a quick sanding due to all the damage I had to fix.

Then I painted the base of the dresser in Paris Grey and fixed the drawer tracks. (Don't make fun of my weights, I ran out of clamps and a DIY gal always has a plan up her sleeve!)

After I painted the drawer fronts, I sprayed the handles white. But I didn't really like it, so I took some steel wool and distressed the handles. I then used a spray polycrylic on the handles to seal the paint. I think they look much better now!

I gave the whole piece one more light coat of the chalk paint, then distressed the edges with my Purdy 5 in 1 tool.

A quick coat of clear wax, and I was finished!

I can just imagine this in someone's dining room as a buffet or a tv stand in a family room. Maybe it will even find it's way into someone's grey bedroom! The possibilities are endless with this piece!

Here's a before meets after picture!

It's for sale in the store, so check it out!
