Custom Grey chairs

I hope everyone had a GREAT weekend. They just go by too quickly!

I got to meet Tanis, who contacted me a few months ago about some of my pieces. We emailed back and forth most of the summer and finally found a time to meet.

Tanis dropped off these beautiful dining room chairs for me to refinish. (funny story...she actually dropped them off at the wrong house and I had to drive around my neighborhood until I found them!)

There were 4 of them that she wanted refinished for her black kitchen table.

Tanis wanted them to be a light grey, so I went with ASCP in Paris Grey.

I thought it was going to be a quick transformation, but I was wrong. (This always happens when I think anything will be quick!)

The chairs had a bunch of old layers of paint and a lot of drip marks. I sanded and sanded and I still don't think they're perfect, but they turned out pretty good :)

For the seats, Tanis purchased an extra curtain panel to match the ones in her kitchen and then just recovered the seats in that material.

I love them in Grey! Here's a little Before Meets After..

FREE CL desk

I was perusing craig and his long list and I stumbled on THIS!

Yes I know it's just an ordinary looking traiditonal desk, but it was FAH-REEE!!!

Called hubby, said get your butt home, grabbed the truck, and picked it up!

I couldn't believe my eyes!

Theeeeeeeeeen it sat in my basement for months. I swear it was giving me the evil eye everytime I walked by it saying "paint me, paint me".

I gave it and finally got around to painting it. I painted it Old White from Annie Sloan's Chalk Paint.

No sanding, priming, etc.

I've learned with old white that it does need a few more coats than the other colors, especially if you're going over dark wood.

I changed the pulls to give it a more updated look, and here she is!

This total desk transformation cost me less than $50.

It looks so good with my $4 chair and my $30 tablecloth curtains!

(yes, everything in this picture cost less than $90 :) )

I'm keeping it...for the time being.

I'm not sure if I love the scale of the desk by the window. I was thinking something smaller.

Here's the Before Meets After!

(I did accidentially take a chunk out of the side while moving this beast, so I still need to fix that!)

But for right now, it's made its way nicely into our office.

Happy Fall!

I hope you had BEAUTIFUL weather where you live! We enjoyed such a nice fall weekend.

The hubbs happened to land last minute box seats to his Alma Mater so we were able to have a relaxing day (sitting in an air conditioned box) enjoying a great football game.

So that endless list of house projects got put to the side, but it was a great Fall weekend with friends.

What did you do?

$4 chair

Somedays on my way home from school, I stop by my local goodwill.  I stumbled upon this chair and I was squealing with excitement.

I realized the fabric matched my tabelcloth curtains perfectly, I just needed to paint the base.

So I took the chair apart, threw on some ASCP in duck Egg blue, and in about 20 minutes. I had a whole new chair!

This is so exciting for me because I really haven't kept too many of the pieces I've refinished, but this one matched my curtains too perfectly to pass up!

Best furniture find EVER!

What a crazy weekend it was at our house.....I didn't get much done. But sometimes weekends like that are nice.

The other day, my MIL was in town and we left hubbs and his brother at home while we went to Goodwill.

I've been on a furniture dry spell lately. I haven't found anything at my usual spots and I've come up empty on Craigslist too.

I was beginning to give up when I spotted this amazing furniture at Goodwill.

I swiped the tag off the armoire but couldn't find the one on the dresser.

That's because this sweet woman next to me was admiring the dresser and I spotted the tag in her hand. I was secretly hoping she'd find a flaw with the dresser and put the tag back on.  But no....

An employee came out and said that there's also TWO MATCHING NIGHTSTANDS to the set in the back and he would sell them, along with the dresser and armoire together for $59.

$59???

My mouth fell open because the armoire tag I had in my had was $40 alone!!!

The lady and I looked at each other, wondering who was going to give in. She politely told me about reevaluating her life and not buying things she didn't need anymore, and she wanted me to have the set! I couldn't believe it! She gave me the tag and the employee went in the back to bring the 2 nightstands out and a tag for all 4 items! I squealed all the way to the register!

As soon as we got home, I knew where the long dresser was going.

We had done some rearranging after we bought the $100 bed. I didn't like our tall dresser in their anymore, so I replaced it with the long one from GW.

I decided to leave it the way it was because it was in pretty good condition. I used Goo Gone to get off some sticky stuff, and then used a furniture pen to clean up the scuffs.

It had a price tag on the inside for $595 dollars! I was so excited I got the whole set for $59. I still can't believe it!

You can see the reflection in the mirror of our $100 bed.

You might be wondering what I'm going to do with the armoire and the 2 nightstands....you'll just have to wait and see!

tablecloths turned curtains

I spotted these tablecloths at Goodwill for $6.60. I opened them up at the store and realized they were 10 feet long! (Who has a table that long???)

AND THERE WERE 2 OF THEM :)

My mind was spinning, but right away I knew they would be perfect for curtains for our office/guest room on the main floor.

I brought them home, laid them flat and ironed them.

Since they were already hemmed on all sides, all I had to do was hem the bottom to the correct length.

We have pretty high ceilings, so all I did was hem them to 9 feet. I used the extra I cut off to make tabs for the back.

I had the hubbs install a curtain bar.

(Sorry ladies, he's taken!)

I got new curtains for less than 30 bucks and 2 hours time!

Here's a little Before Meets After

No I just have to figure out what's going in the rest of the room!

After making these, I statred thinking...what else have you made curtains out of? I know drop cloths have been a big hit lately, but anyone else have anything interesting?
