Dining Room Decisions 2012: Light fixture

So way back forever ago, I started redoing my dining room.

With the spirit of an election year, I allowed you to vote and participate in decisions in this room!

Last time you voted on the rug, this time you'll vote on the lighting!

Let's remember what this room started out like.
Very dark!

This light fixture was actually bright brass, but a quick coat of ORB spray paint and it was updated.

Then I got started painting the room and finding a new rug and table.

But the light fixture still wasn't the look I was going for.

So I stumbled upon this in Tuesday morning on clearance for $60.

Only problem is that it's actually a wall plug in that's meant to swag.

So, it's going to take some interesting electrical work from the hubbs to make this work.

Right now I just took the other one down and just hung this one from the chain so you could decide. (It doesn't even work! All the cords are shoved up there so you can vote!!)

This was my inspiration at Lowes, but I wasn't going to pay $150 for it!
Zoomed: Portfolio 18" Bronze Pendant Light with Fabric Shade

So, If you vote for the white drum shade, it may not stay white!

So here are your choices.
#1 leave what I have. Has a nice contrast against the blue wall.
#2 the white drum shade. More updated Look. If you decide #2 tell me if you think I should spruce it up a bit too!

For those of you who like details, no I don't know what I'm doing on that back wall or with the table yet! Those will be votes for later on down the road!

So get voting! I'll leave the comments open until the end of the weekend.

  2. I like the current fixture, but the new one is awesome too. You can't go wrong except that the new wiring might be too much of a pain.

  3. I love #2. The white looks so fresh, and I like it with the blue walls and all the white trim.

  7. I like both, but the drum shade would look awesome stenciled to look like your inspiration piece!

  9. #2, especially after I've seen what you can do with a lamp shade!!

  10. I like #2 either the way it is OR spruced up, but what I think really needs a change is your chairs. Now that you've lightened up the rooms the chairs look too heavy, which of course is just my two cents worth :)

  14. #2 and leave it white. The chairs need some punch; perhaps a striking striped fabric. You may have plans for that once you've done the table, but that is the glaring issue to me, not the lamp as much.

  15. Hi,
Both seem to be lacking something - maybe both are too small? not the right shape? It would be fun if you tarted-up both and then did the comparison. Fun for us; not so fun for you.
I also agree about the chairs. Everything is so bright and airy and then the chairs are heavy - not so much the colour but the style. But what do I know???
Good luck with whatever you decide.

  16. I would keep the white one and maybe find a fabric similar to the design of the lowes fixture and cover it!
