Did everyone have a good weekend? School officially starts today :( I was in denial this weekend and wanted to start a project!
Remember how I told you about a few of my thrifty finds?
And how one inspired me to start a room makeover?
Well that room is the laundry room.
It looks horrible!
I do have some big plans for this little room!
1. Paint
2. New lighting
3. Dress up the walls
4. ironing station
5. cabinets and/or better shelving
6. covering up connections.
7. Some sort of wall art
I started by clearing out the laundry room and removing the old shelving.
When I say old shelving, I mean it. Our house was built in 2000, but I'm pretty sure since it was a foreclosure, the bank threw up someones old wire shelving. This stuff was NAS-TY!
Yes, those are long blonde hairs stuck in yellow gunk. No, there is not a blonde in our house. It wasn't even worth cleaning and trying to reuse them. I actually just threw them away!
The shelving left some pretty big holes in the wall.
So after filling and sanding the holes I was ready to paint.
The paint part was easy. I don't want to spend a lot of money in this room, so I used some leftover paint from the dining room.
Score! Free paint!
I didn't realize how peachy the walls looked until there was blue paint on them. Yes, I'm lazy and didn't paint the whole back wall. I've got big plans for that space. No need to paint!
So far, here's my cost break down.

Who knows how long it will sit like this! I'm determined to not spend a lot of money in here. Sometimes you have to sacrifice time for saving money. It's not pretty, but it's livable for now.
I'll be working on this long term, so stick with me!

Love the color! That alone is going to make a huge difference in the space!
ReplyDeleteNice color change. I might go ahead and paint the rest of that wall, in case you put up floating glass shelves, or do something else that might end up exposing the wall.
ReplyDeleteI'm looking to spruce up our very small laundry room too, so I can't wait to see what you do in there. Though I haven't much patience, so I may start and finish it before I see what you have planned. I'm sure it'll look great though!
Wow! I LOVE the color! Better already! Don't you just LOVE freshly painted rooms!?
ReplyDeleteFun to be redoing a laundry room as the same time as you. I'm stenciling the back wall and there's a huge hole where the cabinet will go. Laziness wins again!
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see what you are up to! Our laundry room is sooo darn small. Really need to work on it soon.
ReplyDeleteYay for free paint ... boo for back to work. :)
ReplyDeleteThe way to cover up the connection boxes is to build a box with storage drawers for the washer/dryer. DON'T do like I did and buy the ones made for raising the W/D....TOTAL waste of $. I'd rather have wooden ones at a fraction of the cost.
ReplyDeleteDid that make sense? Build raisers for the W/D and the connections will then fall behind them.
