Vintage baby changing table turned nightstand

Hi All! Happy New Year!

I wanted to share with you my first furniture piece of 2013. And this one I'm keeping :)

This piece was actually my childhood baby changing dresser. Before that, my parents got in from a neighbor so they're not really sure how old it is. But it had a lot of wear and tear.

My dad was kind enough to fix it up a bit before I got my hands on it. He had to fix the small wheels that were actually behind the legs, nail down the top, and re-level the whole piece. I love the original ceramic knobs and that all the nails had square heads!

Once it made it's way back to my house, I primed it with Kilz and then painted it with basic white trim paint.

But it needed some character. I used my trusty frog tape and a level to mark off two stripes over the knob holes.

I have never painted stripes before on anything, but I knew frog tape wouldn't disappoint. You simply put it on, then press down the edges lightly so the take is "locked down" from any paint getting under it.

I used a sample pot of ASCP I got at Haven. The color is Greek Blue. It's a very bright blue but I love it for an accent against the white.

I painted 1 coat on and then pulled off the frog tape before the paint was completely dry.

I actually didn't put a top coat on it because I wanted it to wear a little. I did use some sand paper and run it a long a few of the edges before I brought it up to our guest room.

I love the way the blue stripes on the dresser look with the stripes on the bedding.

I love having a more substantial piece next to the bed.

To continue along with the beachy look, I added some simple accessories and a lamp that hubbs and I picked up a few summers ago on a beach trip.

Here's the Before Meets After!

One last look....

I'll be back later this week to talk about Home Goals for 2013! Boy do I have some big plans!

  1. How crazy that is has square nails, love that little detail. It looks great, you got a nice ASCP color to test out. I'm only a little jealous. ;) Can't wait to see your big goals for 2013!

  4. What a great memory to have evidence of in a guest room. A good conversation starter (if you need one). Really love everything about your guest room I can see. The dresser came out great, clean and fresh looking. Love the beach girl pic over the dresser.
Looking forward to seeing what your projects are for 2013. Love your blog.

  5. Hi, I'm new here. Did you do any prep at all before priming with Kilz?

    1. nope! I just wiped it down with a damp paper towel to make sure it didn't have any cobwebs on it, then I started priming it right away!
